FHWA Exploratory Advance Research Solicits Proposals - Deadline: September 30, 2010
The Federal Highway Administration's Exploratory Advanced Research (EAR) Program working with the Offices of Acquisition Management, Infrastructure Research and Development (R&D), Safety R&D, Operations R&D, Planning and Policy is soliciting proposals through a Broad Agency Announcement in three topics, including: Agent-Based Modeling and Simulation (ABMS) for Transportation, 2) Breakthrough Approaches for Network-Level Travel Data, and 3) National Transportation Demand Model: Foundational Research for New Approaches. Proposals are due September 30, 2010, with awards anticipated in 2011. The EAR Program plans to award around $5 million to proposals responding to the solicitation. Transportation Infrastructure Reconnaissance Team to Chile
On February 27, 2010, a devastating earthquake, measuring 8.8 on the Richter scale, struck off the coast of the Maule region of Chile affecting a large area including the cities of Concepcion and Santiago, the Chilean capital. A comparative study of the affected infrastructure could lead to improvements in design codes and standards to prevent similar damages, increase resilience, and maintain sustainable infrastructure. Highways of the Future—A Strategic Plan for Highway Infrastructure Research and Development
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Office of Infrastructure Research and Development (R&D) developed this strategic plan and roadmap to guide all aspects of the office's research and technology initiatives for the next 10 to 15 years. 2008 Interactive Highway Safety Design Model (IHSDM) Public Release
The 2008 public release (Version 5.0.0) of IHSDM is available for free downloading. IHSDM is a suite of software analysis tools for evaluating safety and operational effects of geometric design decisions on two-lane rural highways.
