In Brief.

FHWA will hold a "train the trainer" Pavement Technology Workshop at its Midwestern Resource Center in Olympia Fields, Illinois, on March 27-30, 2000, for pavement and materials engineers in its four resource centers. This workshop will help familiarize the engineers with the LTPP program, Superpave, and other products and marketing materials. After serving as a FHWA Division Administrator in Delaware for the past 3 1/2 years, Tommy Beatty, former SHRP implementation technology coordinator (1995-1996) and chief of the Office of Technology Application's Technology Assessment Branch (1992-1995), is back at FHWA Headquarters as the director of the Office of Pavement Technology. Beatty says , "I plan to be actively involved with technology at Headquarters. While in Delaware I kept up with SHRP, and I'm pleased with the progress it has made. The Lead State concept in particular has proven to be very effective."

The LTPP program has some new faces. Larry Wiser and Jean Sexton have both joined the program's staff at the Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center in McLean, Virginia. Other staff changes include the departure of Monte Symons for a new position at FHWA's Midwestern Resource Center and the retirement of John Nichols from his position as an LTPP regional engineer. Antonio Nieves has also left the LTPP staff and is now serving as Executive Director of the Pan American Institute of Highways.
