One Stop for Hydraulics Engineering
Hydraulics engineering at your fingertips: the Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA) new hydraulics engineering Web site (www.fhwa.dot.gov/engineering/hydraulics) brings together information on a range of hydraulics topics. Instead of visiting various FHWA Web sites to collect information, one stop is now all you need.
Scour technology, bridge hydraulics, culvert hydraulics, highway drainage, hydrology, and environmental hydraulics are the featured technology areas. Each technology area includes information on such topics as conferences, software, policy and guidance memos, research, publications, training and workshop opportunities, and staff contacts.
For users who would prefer to see information on the six technology areas at a glance, an "All Resource Types" section gathers information on conferences, software, policy, publications, and research for all of the technology areas. Visitors who click on "Related Links," meanwhile, will find an extensive list of links to related Web sites, such as those of the Coast Guard, University of Colorado's Natural Hazards Center, Federal Emergency Management Agency, National Park Service, and U.S. Geological Survey. Links to State highway agency hydraulics and drainage manuals are also included.
FHWA plans to launch similar Web sites for other program areas this year, including ones for pavements and geotechnical topics.
