SHRP 2 Sponsors Safety Research Symposium

The Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP) 2 will hold a Safety Research Symposium on July 26-27, 2007, in Washington, DC, to provide information on SHRP 2 safety projects prior to the release of the second round of 2007 Requests for Proposals (RFPs). The RFPs are scheduled to be released July 30, 2007, with proposals due in September. The symposium will include presentations on current SHRP 2 projects, discussion of the SHRP 2 research questions, and information on the long-range plan for safety research and the next round of safety RFPs.

As authorized under the 2005 Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU), SHRP 2's goal is to develop recommended procedures, practices, and applications to advance the Nation's highway system in the key focus areas of safety, renewal, reliability, and capacity (see December 2006 Focus).

Participants must register for the free symposium by July 2, 2007. Space is limited.
