Honoring Excellence in Highway Utilities
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is now accepting nominations for its biennial Excellence in Utilities Awards Program, which honors those that excel in improving the utility relocation and accommodation process while protecting the rights of property owners and other stakeholders. Awards will be given in the categories of Innovation, Leadership, Relocation, and Subsurface Utility Engineering. Each category will recognize projects at two funding levels:
- Projects costing $100 million or less
- Projects costing over $100 million.
Anyone may nominate a highway project or process, or an individual, contractor, or organization involved in a project, that has used Federal-aid funding sources to make an outstanding contribution to transportation within the last 3 years (since January 1, 2002).
To learn more about the awards program, visit www.fhwa.dot.gov/utilities, or contact Donald Jackson in FHWA's Office of Program Administration, 202-366-4630 (email: donald.jackson@fhwa.dot.gov). Entries must be submitted online at www.fhwa.dot.gov/utilities by January 20, 2006. Award winners will be announced at the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials' Right-of-Way and Utilities Subcommittee Meeting, to be held May 1, 2006, in Baltimore, Maryland.
