Your Online Training Connection for Concrete Pavement Construction
The Transportation Curriculum Coordination Council (TCCC), in partnership with the Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA) National Highway Institute (NHI), has created an array of free online training courses on materials and construction practices for concrete pavements. The courses cover everything from concrete durability to cement hydration and have been developed in conjunction with the National Concrete Pavement Technology Center at Iowa State University and FHWA's Office of Pavement Technology.

SHRP 2: Advancing the Nation's Highway System
The Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP) 2 continues to move forward with accelerating solutions for highway safety, renewal, reliability, and capacity. Information on the progress of all of the SHRP 2 projects is available at www.trb.org/SHRP2.

FHWA Launches Information Exchange for Bridges
The Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA) Highways for LIFE program and Office of Bridge Technology have launched a new online Information Exchange for Bridges (IEB). The site, knowledge.fhwa.dot.gov/cops/ep.nsf/home, offers information on innovative products and processes for bridge construction, including details on preparing project descriptions, specifications, and construction drawings.

Accelerating Construction with EPS Geofoam
A free Web conference sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA) Highways for LIFE program and National Highway Institute (NHI) will highlight solutions for accelerating construction of highway embankments on soft or unstable ground. Scheduled for October 7, 2009, Advancements in EPS Geofoam for Transportation Applications will examine how the use of super-lightweight fills such as Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) geofoam is becoming a popular solution for mitigating soft ground problems.

Next Generation Transportation Solutions
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has released a new series of fact sheets highlighting the next generation transportation solutions of FHWA's Exploratory Advanced Research (EAR) Program. The EAR Program focuses on long-term, high-risk research with a high pay-off potential. Fact sheets, including Real-Time Measurement of Soil Stiffness During Static Compaction and Increasing Highway Throughput: Communications and Control Technologies to Improve Traffic Flow, are available at www.fhwa.dot.gov/advancedresearch/pubs.cfm.

FHWA to Host Workshop on Pavement Health Track Analysis Tool
The Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA) new Pavement Health Track Analysis Tool allows users to determine and report on the health of their pavement network based on the concepts of remaining service life. On October 18, 2009, users can learn more about the tool at a half-day workshop to be held in Portland, Oregon, in conjunction with the Eighth National Conference on Transportation Asset Management.
