Hand Cleaning Methods

SP-1: Surface has been cleaned. No remaining dirt, oil, or grease. ___

SP-2: Surface has been hand tool cleaned and is free of all loose mill scale, loose rust, loose/defective paint, weld flux, slag, and spatter. ___

SP-3: Surface has been power tool cleaned and is free of all loose mill scale, loose rust, loose/defective paint, weld flux, slag, and spatter. Power tools have not put any grease or oil back onto the surface. ___


Blast Cleaning

Sample the abrasive. Verify it is free of grease, oil, or other contaminants. ___

Inspect air supply. Verify, with blotter cloth, air is free of oil, water, and other contaminants. ___

Blasting pressure is at least 620 kPa (90 psi) or higher if recyclable grit is used. ___

SP-6: Surface has been blast cleaned and is free of all rust, mill scale, paint, and foreign matter (except for slight shadows, streaks, or discoloration caused by rust stains, mill scale stains, and tight residue of previous coatings). At least two-thirds of each 150-cm² (9 in²) area must be free of all visible residue with the remainder limited to the discolorations noted in the standard. ___

SP-10: Surface has been blast cleaned and is free of all rust, mill scale, paint, and foreign matter (leaving only slight stains from rust and mill scale). At least 95% of each 150-cm² (9 in²) area should be free of all visible residue with the remainder limited to slight staining. ___

The anchor pattern has been verified using a micrometer and replica tape. ___
