Inspector Characteristics

Color vision testing

During their time at the FHWA NDE Center, each inspector was asked to partake in physical and psychological testing to determine their personal characteristics. The testing included three eye tests and two questionnaires.

The determination of each inspector's characteristics was vital to this study as it allowed quantifiable comparisons between inspectors. For example, the testing provided the researchers with information regarding bridge inspection experience, fear of heights, and general physical conditioning. These characteristics could then be compared to bridge inspection results to determine possible correlations.
