The CALL FOR ENTRIES for the Federal Highway Administration’s 1999 ENVIRONMENTAL EXCELLENCE AWARDS
Now’s your opportunity to find
out all about the third biennial “Environmental Excellence Awards.”
What are they, who is eligible, when are the entries due, where are the awards presented, and how can we apply? The “Call for Entries” tells you all that and more. Here are some specific features:
“Perhaps the greatest challenge transportation professionals face is to meet a growing transportation demand while protecting and enhancing the environment,” said former FHWA Deputy Administrator Jane Garvey at the presentation of the first FHWA Environmental Excellence Awards on Earth Day 1995. “The Federal Highway Administration decided to establish the Environmental Excellence Awards as a way of recognizing and thanking our partners, who, day in and day out, help us meet this challenge. ... And they’re a golden opportunity for us to recognize not only noteworthy projects but also outstanding processes and people.” Winners of Environmental Excellence Awards are problem-solvers — people who have seen and met environmental challenges in their community or region. For more information, call Pat Cazenas at (202) 366-4085. For an entry form, check the Internet at http://www.fhwa.dot.gov/environment. “We need to assess our own relationship to the natural world, and renew, at the deepest level of personal integrity, a connection to it.” - Vice President Al Gore
