New Courses Offered

Computerized Traffic Signal Systems (#133010) presents current technology and control options available for computerized traffic control, including microcomputer applications. The course covers the technical issues of a computerized traffic control system and the steps necessary to develop and manage a system.

Introduction to Systems Engineering (#137024) offers an introduction to systems engineering for ITS project managers and project staff. The course provides a high-level view of a broad and rich topic area, introducing basic concepts to individuals who are working on ITS projects.

2001 Dwight David Eisenhower Transportation Fellowship Program Awards

Ninety-seven DDETFP awards have been granted in 2001, up 36 percent from last year. The awards were made in the following categories: 21 Graduate, 46 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), 20 Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs), one Tribal College (TC), and nine Faculty Awards.

FHWA's DDETFP is entering its second year of partnership with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) of the U.S. Department of Treasury. Through this partnership, the National Internship Program provides summer internships to undergraduate and graduate students within the Department of Treasury offices throughout the country. The partnership has produced 16 summer internships in 2001, up from six last year.

DDETFP intends to expand partnerships within the public and private sectors that will educate and train students to meet workforce needs.
